Great service. Have had a number of maintenance jobs done by Sydney E&M now. Very happy with the service - Excellent knowledge and unbiased advice on the best way to complete each of my electrical challenges. Have changed lighting, installed power for outdoor blinds, and retro-fitted extensive data cabling into my house

Excellent service and workmanship. Chris has installed a range of indoor and outdoor lights and fittings for us. This included a chandelier. He’s also done some difficult aerial wiring in our old 2 storey house. He always makes sure everything is finished to a high standard. He even fixed up some issues left behind by a previous electrician. Very polite and easy to deal with, always turns up on time and leaves our place cleaner than when he arrived. I would never use anyone else.

We would highly recommend Chris to deal with any electrical problems. We had problems with multiple power points and wanted new bedroom fans installed in our apartment. Chris handled the job in a professional and efficient manner and his fee was very reasonable. I will be using him for any future electrical jobs.
Christopher is an outstanding electrician. He has done work for us on two homes over the past 5 or so years. We have always been impressed by the quality of his work and his strong work ethic. Our current home is 60 years old and we fully renovated it 2 years ago. It created some very real challenges all of which Christopher solved. As a tradesman he is an A1 problem solver. Christpher had great personal integrity. He is well organised and totally reliable. We have recommended him to a number of family members and friends who, like us, have been highly satisfied with all aspects of his service.

Frequently Asked Questions

We try to update this FAQ section on a regular basis. If you are looking for an answer that is not here, give us a call on 0412 396 505. We will answer your electrical questions for you.

  • It is most likely that your safety switch has tripped. To check if this is the problem you need to identify your safety switch in the switchboard. Your safety switch will have a ‘test’ button on the front of it. Reset the safety switch. If it trips again immediately then give Sydney Electrical and Maintenance a call for a free quotation to carry out this work.

  • If a circuit breaker trips, it is a sign that the circuit is overloaded. This usually happens more often in winter as heaters are plugged into power points. Try plugging your heater into another power point preferably on the other side of the house (adjacent power points are normally connected to the same circuit).
If this does not fix the problem them you may need to have an additional circuit installed. Give Sydney Electrical and Maintenance a call for a quotation to carry out this work.

  • The 'zap' is caused by arching in the switch mechanism. Arcing light switches can be caused by a number of problems including overloaded circuits.
The switches could be worn out or the wires at the switch connections could be loose, causing arcing that is making the noises. There is probably nothing wrong with your basic wiring. The safest course is to replace any switch that is making unusual noises such as hissing, crackling and popping. Have us check the problem and rectify it for you.

  • A hot powerpoint could be a sign of an electrical fault. It could be that you are drawing too much power from the point usually by using powerboards or double adapters.
If you have anything plugged into the power point then disconnect it straight away. If the power point is still hot to touch then have it checked as soon as possible by Sydney Electrical and Maintenance. We are happy to help out when we can.

  • A circuit breaker limits the flow of electricity through a given circuit in your home, therefore reducing the possibility of a fire due to overloaded circuits.
While a safety switch is designed to save lives by interrupting the flow of electricity quickly. A safety switch has a 'TEST' button. A circuit breaker does not.
